Campbell County Public Schools Literacy Plan
Campbell County Public Schools (CCPS) considers literacy instruction as a cornerstone of its educational approach. We ensure that all students acquire the necessary skills to become successful readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. We emphasize developing critical thinking abilities, which are vital for students as they progress through different stages of their lives. Through the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA), passed in the 2022 General Assembly, Virginia is leading a nationwide effort to enhance early literacy outcomes for young learners. CCPS, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), is actively participating in this multi-year initiative. The VDOE provides our school division with tools, resources, technical assistance, and funding, all crucial for achieving our shared literacy goals. This partnership underscores our commitment to preparing students for future challenges and ensuring their success in an increasingly complex world.
What is Literacy?
Literacy primarily refers to the ability to read and write. However, an expanded definition of literacy also carries additional significance.
