Parental Notification of Instructional Materials with Sexually Explicit Content
Campbell County School Board revised Policy IIA and IIAB to establish procedures for schools to (i) identify instructional materials with sexually explicit content, (ii) ensure parental notification of any instructional materials with sexually explicit content, (iii) permit parents to review all instructional materials with sexually explicit content, and (iv) ensure alternative instructional materials, that do not include sexually explicit content, are provided in a non-punitive manner for any student whose parent so requests.
Each link below includes school-specific instructional materials identified to contain sexually explicit content by subject and grade level if such materials exist at the school. Some schools have none in use. These lists will be updated if new instructional material is made available to students.
CCPS recognizes that parents should guide their children in the selection of choice instructional resources, and there are times when a resource may not align with their family values. In such situations, we invite parents to meet with the teacher to collaboratively select alternate recommendations or solutions.
If teachers intend to use any resource that contains sexually explicit content, they will notify the parent/guardian 30 days prior to the use of this material. Upon request, parents may have their child use alternative material in a non-punitive manner that does not include sexually explicit content. Alternative material may not be available for AP and Dual Enrollment courses, as well as national and state assessments. If parents choose to request alternative material for a class, they must notify the teacher at a minimum of one week prior to the date of the planned instruction.
Note: Not all of the resources are used at every school.
