BUS DRIVER

 Description:

Performs all activities required to safely drive a school bus transporting students and other authorized personnel to and from schools and school-related events.

Qualifications:

• Hold a valid CDL license to drive a school bus with airbrake certification or enroll and complete Campbell County Public Schools CDL training program.

• Be 21 years of age or older

 

Required:

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a GED.

• Applicant must have possession of a valid driver's license and a five year, satisfactory driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles that shows within the preceding five years, there have been no convictions of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, and no assignments to any alcohol safety action program or driver alcohol rehabilitation program; and within the preceding 12 months, the applicant has not been convicted of two or more moving traffic violations or has not been required to attend a driver improvement clinic by the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles, and has no charge of reckless driving with the previous 11 years.

• Applicants must have possession of, or ability to obtain, a commercial driver's license from the state in which the driver resides, as defined below, and possess a commercial driver's license CDL-B with P and S (passenger and school bus) endorsements.

• Successful completion of CCPS bus driver training is required.

• Applicants must have a satisfactory pre-employment physical examination and a completed physician's certificate which is required under the provision of Section 22.1-178 of the Code of Virginia and Regulations of the Virginia Board of Education) with controlled substance testing, annual physical examinations, and random tests for use of controlled substances and alcohol, as prescribed by the Virginia Board of Education and CCPS.

• Ability to adhere to CCPS policy regarding meeting qualifications for physical and/or health requirements and maintaining certifications pertaining to school bus operations.

• Must possess or have the ability to learn state regulations and laws pertaining to the operation of school buses.

• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language sufficiently to converse on the two-way radio with bus riders, public officials, and the general public.

• Ability to read a standard road map and have knowledge of the local street and road system of Campbell County. 

• Ability to interact positively with, gain the respect of, and maintain discipline over student passengers to ensure that behavior is controlled and not distractive to safe driving.

• Ability to assist student riders with special needs.

• Ability to work with school bus attendants in managing all riders.

• Knowledge of safe, proper, and courteous motor vehicle operating procedures.

• Ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.

• Among the essential functions of this job is regular attendance, punctuality in reporting to work, and timely submission of attendance and leave requests.

• Possession of appropriate commercial driver’s license

Full time and Part time - $15.52 per hour

Bus Attendant

Description:

Performs work assisting with the transportation of students to and from schools, and other special events. Assists disabled and impaired students getting on and off bus or in and out of a van including lifting, folding, unfolding, positioning, and securing wheelchairs and other restraint devices; maintains safe conditions during operation. 

Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a high school diploma or GED. Have the ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with students and drivers; concern for the well-being of, and desire to assist general education students and/or students with disabilities; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with fellow workers, students, and parents; sufficient strength and agility to move, lift, and secure students and equipment and assist students with entering and exiting a bus, van or other vehicle in regular and emergency situations. Among the essential functions of this job are regular attendance, punctuality in reporting to work. 

 Requirements:

• Ability to interact positively with, gain the respect of, and maintain discipline over student passengers to ensure that behavior is controlled and not distractive to safe driving.

• Assist with loading, transporting, and unloading of general education or Special Education students on assigned buses or vans.

• Assists with the security of students on vehicles and observes the special needs of individuals. 

• Assists with any special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, safety harnesses, etc.

• Ability to work with school bus drivers in managing all riders.

• Understanding of safe, proper, and courteous motor vehicle operating procedures.

• Ability to read, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.

• Among the essential functions of this job is regular attendance, punctuality in reporting to work, and timely submission of attendance and leave requests.

Salary: $13.00 per hour

General Definition of Work:

Performs responsible unskilled work in the care and cleaning of school buildings, facilities and grounds; does related work as required.  Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Cleaning school building interiors and facilities; maintaining school grounds.

·       Opens and secures building.

·       Sweeps, strips, buffs, waxes or dust mops assigned areas; cleans carpet.

·       Removes trash from buildings.

·       Scrubs and cleans toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, etc.; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers.

·       Dusts furniture, walls, windowsills and other woodwork; cleans windows.

·       Sanitizes and cleans drinking fountains.

·       Mows grass, weed eats, removes leaves; picks up paper and trash.

·       Checks fire extinguishers, emergency lights and exit lights on a regular basis.

·       Replaces bulbs in light fixtures.

·       Hauls books and paper with hand truck; moves furniture.

·       Changes combination locks.

·       Cleans up spills and sanitizes areas following incidents involving bodily injuries.

·       Reports any mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc. problem to the Head Custodian or principal.

·       Assists with snow removal and ice control.

·       Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to read; thoroughness, cleanliness; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.

Physical Requirements:

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Performs responsible semiskilled work in preparing and serving institutional meals and cleaning cafeterias; does related work as required.  Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Cafeteria Manager.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Preparing, cooking and serving meats, breads, vegetables and other food in accordance with the menu.

·       Prepares and serves fruits, desserts, salads, soups and other foods.

·       Operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens and other food service and mechanical equipment.

·       Cleans work surfaces, eating and food preparation area.

·       Sweeps and mops and performs other clean-up duties as assigned.

·       Assists in estimating and ordering food supplies.

·       Receives and stocks food supplies.

·       Maintains sanitary conditions; checks temperatures in refrigerators, freezers and on the serving line.

·       Records information concerning food and quantities in production record book daily.

·       Receives and checks in stock; rotates and puts away stock in appropriate place.

·       Enters data into a computer system including adding money onto accounts, ringing up meals, running reports and preparing daily deposits.

·       May serve as cashier.

·       Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving meats, breads, vegetables and other foods on a large scale; general knowledge of the use or care of food preparation equipment; general knowledge of food values and nutrition; general knowledge of U.S.D.A. rules and regulations; skill in the use of standardized recipes and specialized kitchen utensils and equipment; ability to get along well with others; ability to work long hours while standing and under high temperature conditions.

 

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in food preparation. 

Physical Requirements:

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, extreme heat, and atmospheric conditions.
